The foliage of this tree is its distinguishing factor, the leaves are thick, dark green, oblong and mildly serrated/lobed at the edge; resembling that of a Sweet Chestnut, hence the common and botanical name reference to this. In the autumn time the leaves turn brown before falling.
Quercus castaneifolia grows well in Australia and can exhibit some vigour in growth; it forms a medium to large sized tree which is oval in shape at maturity, often spreading as wide as it is tall.
Green foliage turning yellow in Autumn with acorns.
